The Sheriff's Posse of Sun City patrols the entire SC community, and provides assistance to the Maricopa Sheriff's office by being the boots on the ground, eyes, and ears for the Sheriff of Maricopa County. Trained in emergency procedures, this group of 170 members patrols in marked Sheriff's cars. The Sun City Posse responds to emergency medical requests and assists the Fire Department and ambulance services. Responses also include traffic accidents, traffic flow control, welfare checks, search for missing persons, observation of hazards and threats to the community, home vacation checks, and many other services. The added patrol cars in Sun City along with the regular Sheriff Patrol Deputies makes the Sun City Community one of the safest areas in the Nation.
Hundreds of thousands of tax dollars are saved yearly by the Volunteer Posse efforts. However, no taxpayer money is ever used in the operation of this Posse. Only donations continue to fund this welcome service to Sun City.
I am a Volunteer of the Maricopa County Sheriffs Office in Sun City. Most recently (9-2011), I have been promoted to Posse Master Sergeant - Duty Officer. As a member of the Posse, I can say that it is an honor to serve those within the community. It is a priviledge to be a part of an organization that has benefits and rewards that cannot be measured in dollars but can only be considered 'priceless'!
